As I step into the grand house, a unbearable impression of dread washes over me. Each creak from the beams sends a shiver down my spine. I can almost feel ghosts talking from inside the walls, sharing at stories long forgotten.
That is as if the building itself retains a burden of suffering, and it seeks to release it through these haunting whispers.
Tales Whispered by the Fire
As the fire crackled and danced, casting flickering shadows upon the walls, a gathering/the group/a circle of people/friends/family huddled close. The warmth of the flames did more than just chase away the chill of the night; it kindled a spirit of connection/community/togetherness. Grandpa/Father/Old Tom, his eyes twinkling/gaze distant/features etched with time, began to spin/share/weave a tale/story/yarn from times gone by/of old/long past.
